Regular maintenance of exposed metal parts is essential to help maintain your windows and doors perform at their best. As a result of normal operating and atmospheric conditions, moving mechanical parts of doors and windows will require occasional lubrication. Twice a year, spray WD40 to clean all locks and any metal surfaces around your doors and windows. Wipe clean then apply petroleum jelly, this will help to keep them operating smoothly and maximise their life.
Typically, double glazing windows have a lifespan of 20 years minimum, but they can last as long as 50 years. Their longevity depends on several factors, including the quality of the manufacture, the construction material, and how well they’ve been maintained.
There is a fantastic selection of colours and finishes across the Veka product range. With the option of a foil colour on the outside and white PVCu on the inside, or matching foils both sides to suit your décor. When choosing from the M70 bevelled profile, you can choose any foil colour for the inside and another colour for the outside, known as “Dual Foil”.
As standard, our units are 28mm advanced performance low emissivity double-glazed sealed units with warm edge spacer and filled with argon gas that achieves a U value of 1.2 W/m2K for maximum heat retention. You are also able to select obscure glass, satin glass, bronze or grey tinted glass, low iron glass and much more. We also offer triple glazing and in a triple glazed unit the centre pane is always toughened safety glass.
To provide additional security, you can opt for hinge protectors. This provides further protection to the hinges with the shootbolt being complemented with bi-parting mushroom cans which lock the centre of the window and resist attempts to jemmy it open. You can also request to upgrade casement windows to Secured by Design standard.
As standard, our doors come with three keys. We do not cut spare key for doors.
For Palladio doors, you will be able to get additional keys cut at a keycutters.
The other doors ranges come with the Ultion high security cylinder and these cannot be cut locally and you need to order direct from Ultion. When you are ordering your new doors from us and if you require additional keys, at that point we can purchase your additional keys.
All VEKA profiles are now extruded with a combination of recycled PVCu for the inner chambers and components, and virgin PVCu for the outer skin. This innovative approach ensures that you receive the highest levels of technology and style expected from a VEKA window system, while also supporting environmental sustainability through the use of recycled materials.
Our VEKA window frames are designed with a zero-waste philosophy. Every part of the window is fully recyclable at the end of its life cycle, including the PVCu profile, glass, hardware, steel or aluminium reinforcement, and gasket.
At Cathedral Windows, we are committed to environmental responsibility and ensure that all PVCu windows removed from properties are sent for recycling, contributing to a circular economy and reducing landfill waste.
The multi-chambered construction of our windows gives added strength and improved thermal efficiency, meaning less heat is lost from your property into the atmosphere and giving you a more energy efficient home and providing you with energy savings. For even greater thermal efficiency, you can also upgrade to triple glazing.
As a guide, the internal glass surface temperature on a single glazed window is 1C, on double glazed 11C and on triple glazed 18C.
When removing existing PVCu windows from a property, all the PVCu is collected and sent for recycling.
